The future of diagnostic imaging will rely, in large part, on the digital revolution that is currently affecting all technologydriven disciplines. Superimposed on the digital substrate, however, are a variety of wide-ranging developments that are modality-specific advancements in image receptor technology and modality-specific image data reduction. Diagnostic imaging is classically divided into the general areas of radiography and fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, nuclear medicine, and ultrasonography (US). The following comments are divided along the same lines and were specifically contributed by individuals specializing in each of those imaging disciplines.
